September 23 – Queen Mary and our Flight Home

Another big hiccup today.  The Queen Mary had engine problems overnight and we are now getting in much later than originally announced.  So we will miss our flight home.

However, we still had to be out of our stateroom so we dutifully moved everything down to the Queen’s Lounge (which we had not seen because it is reserved for the people in the expensive cabins).  We talked with a couple from the UK who had friends who routinely crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Mary.  They said the QMII was ALWAYS on time.

They were going to miss their train to the south and the plane (that they had booked when they knew they were missing the train) as well.  Mary went down and stood in line for quite a while and eventually talked with someone at the desk.  They connected her to United and she was able to rebook to a later flight…no extra charge.

The up side of the delay was that we sailed into NYC during daylight so we had good views of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge,

and the Manhattan skyline.

The down side is they usually come in before sunrise so you see the city all lit up...can't have everything.

While out taking photos of NYC Mary decided to swing by the indoor pool for a last photo.

Fortunately the rest of the day went smoothly.  It was slow getting through customs but we caught a town car to LaGuardia, checked in and were home by the end of the day.  Was good to get home.

And we got to meet our new grandpuppy, Lucas, who was still up.
